Girlguiding UK, ages five to 25 is alive and kicking in Leighton Buzzard and surrounding areas! There are also opportunities for adult volunteers to get involved in leadership. Local enquiry line: 07803 845 588, www.bedsguiding.org.uk

ALL sorts of new groups are springing up at the moment as people are increasingly on the look out for ways to unwind.

What better way is there to relax than through music – and strumming their stuff in Totternhoe tomorrrow (Wednesday) is the newly formed

Ukie Toones, who come from all over Herts, Beds and Bucks for a chance to play with like-minded musicians.

It is looking for new members and you needn’t be a master either as the group welcomes any ability players to join them.

Tomorrow the group will meet for the first time at Totternhoe Football Club at 8pm to 11pm.

Local folk singer Hamish Currie will be leading the night and his recent Berkhamsted Ukulele gathering attracted more than 35 players.

Totternhoe’s organisor Stephen Robson is hoping for similar numbers and he said that initial interest has been amazing.

The group plan to meet on the first Wednesday of every month starting this week.

It has a limited number of ukuleles for general use, but you can buy a soprano ukulele from music shops or the internet for under £25.

Stephen said: “If you are already into it, then come along and share your knowledge and be part of the fun, because it’s a ukulele thrash just for fun!

“Beginners and improvers are made very welcome, so come along and be part of the ukulele renaissance.”

Stephen has been playing for about a year and his favourite piece is Simon and Garfunkels’ El Condor Pasa.

On the evening, organisers will give out music sheets and display it on a big TV screen for all to see.

If you would like to find out more about the group email ukietoones@gmail.com.

You can also follow them on FaceBook, https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/ukietoones/
