The latest stats were presented to a meeting of the police liaison sub committee last week. During the period there were just three arrests – two for fights in Lake Street outside the Picture House, and another arrest after door staff were attacked.

Other incidents picked up which did not result in arrests include: youths on bicycles causing problems in Waterborne Walk; shoplifting from Wilko, Poundland and Superdrug; street drinking; a man sniffing drugs in the multi-storey car park; a dog attack in Parsons Park; a car on the wrong side of the road in the town centre hitting a lamppost (police found a large quantity of white powder on car); the burglary of a town centre shop where cash was taken; a bicycle theft in North Street, and a female stealing a purse from an elderly lady in the High Street.

Central Beds Council says it is considering using a redeployable camera at the rear of the Taylors Estate Agents in North Street to monitor where street drinkings are gathering.
