Commissioner says public support 15.85% tax rise

Beds police and crime commissioner Olly Martins saw the funny side to our coverage on his plans to hike the force’s portionof the council tax bill by 15.85%.

While visiting Morrisons on Lake Street last week the PCC posed with the LBO, before canvassing shoppers on the planned rise.

According to Mr Martins 55% of people supported the increase without further information, a figure which rose to 93% when respondents were told that with the rise an extra hundred officers could be provided across the county.
