An escaped prisoner who brutally attacked a 78-year-old woman while she walked along the canal has been sentenced.
Daniel Puncheon throttled and punched Frances Gordon in the face and chest as she walked along Riverside Walk beside the Grand Union Canal on a Sunday afternoon stroll on May 26.
Puncheon appeared at Luton Crown Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to attempted robbery, burglary and escaping from lawful custody.
He was sentenced on the same day to two years and six months in prison.
