A well-known character who preaches on the streets of Leighton Buzzard has this afternoon been found guilty of stalking offences.

Johann Perera, 43, a widely-known fixture around Leighton town centre – often seen with his guitar preaching messages of positivity – was convicted of stalking a pair of teenage sweethearts by a jury at Luton Crown Court.

He was found guilty of two counts of stalking involving fear of violence, but not guilty of two counts of stalking causing alarm and distress. The latter charges were replaced by lesser charges of stalking, of which he was found guilty.

Perera will now be held in a secure psychiatric unit ahead of his sentencing on October 15.
