Two men have appeared in court after being arrested in Linslade in the early hours of Thursday morning following a burglary at the town’s energie fitness club.

Wesley Bradbery, 20, of Luton and Charlie James, 21, of Bassett Road, Leighton, appeared at Luton Magistrates Court on Friday accused of burglary. James was also charged with assault and Bradbery of being in possession of a firearm after a sawn-off shotgun was found in October, in an alley off Billington Road, Leighton.

The men were spotted by a police patrol shortly after 3am on Thursday, in Queen Street, Leighton.

After a short chase one of the men was handcuffed but managed to flee the scene when the arresting officer had to go and help his colleague who was under attack.

The officers called for backup and a police dog tracked the handcuffed man to a nearby canal bridge.

The men were found with laptops, cash and jewellery.

The assaulted was taken to hospital for treatment to three human bite wounds to his arms and bruising to his face.

Det Insp Sandra Evans, investigating said: “Although two people have been charged these investigations are still on-going and I would urge anyone who has information relating to these inquiries to come forward and speak with officers, in confidence.”

Anyone with information should call 101, text information to 07786 200011 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
