Beds Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft of a large wood chipper from a secure boatyard in Linslade last Thursday.

The equipment was stolen from a large work boat moored in a secure boat yard off Mentmore Road.

The chipper has tracks and is driveable. It was parked on the back of a boat which was moored in the middle of the Grand Union Canal, tied to the outside of another boat, and was not accessible by foot.

The thieves are suspected to have used another large boat to tow the work boat an up the canal, north of the boatyard, before removing the battery from the chipper.

Police believe they have then driven the chipper off the boat at a narrow point in the river, probably using their own battery, and made off with it. Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the theft or anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the boat to contact the police on the non-emergency number 101, or text information to 07786 200011.

Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
