Developer swoops on Falcon pub site

The Falcon in Leighton’s Stanbridge Road is programmed for demolition and councillors have been discussing an application by developers Cavendish Properties to raise the redundant pub and its outhouses to the ground.

Members of Leighton-Linslade Town Council’s planning committee had already objected to two previous applications to develop the site for housing, with the plans subsequently refused by Central Bedfordshire Council.

Central Beds had already verified that prior approval for the demolition wasn’t required.

Member of the town council’s planning committee, Councillor Mike Bishop, said: “We didn’t object to the principle of housing development on this site as the pub is clearly redundant.

“However the two proposals were for too many houses, some of which overlooked neighbouring properties.

“Personally I don’t share Central Bedfordshire’s view that the building is a landmark of significant importance to the character of the locality or their description of it as a ‘heritage asset’.

“I hope that the owners will bring forward an acceptable scheme as soon as possible and not leave the site derelict.”
