Busy time for campaigners with buzz over ‘Bee Tea Party’

To keep the buzz around protecting bees in Leighton Buzzard, a ‘Bee Tea Party’ is being hosted by South Bedfordshire Friends of the Earth with special guest South West Beds MP Andrew Selous.

Experts in beekeeping and farming in support of pollinators will give talks on this subject and share their expertise at the event on Saturday, March 8, from 10am to 12pm, at the Friends Meeting House in North Street, Leighton Buzzard.

Victoria Harvey of South Bedfordshire Friends of the Earth said: “Come to the Bee Tea Party if you want to learn all about bees, beekeeping and bee friendly farming while enjoying delicious refreshments.

“Here is a chance to find out how to help bees not only nationally, but locally through helping create wildflower meadows, wildlife friendly areas around Leighton Buzzard, or joining our campaign for bee friendly lawns.

“Our MP Andrew Selous, who will also be attending, keeps part of his lawn uncut for the bees!”

After gaining the status of Bee Friendly Town last August, Leighton-Linslade Town Council and South Bedfordshire Friends of the Earth are working in partnership to bring back the bees in the area.

Refreshments will be provided by Leighton Buzzard Pampered Chef, Carolyn Figg for the event and there is also a chance to meet Jackie Burke, manager of the Leighton Buzzard Hedgehog Rehabilitation Service, with one of her 70 hedgehogs.

The programme of the event can be viewed on the group’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/southbedsfoe and you can also visit their website www.southbedsfoe.co.uk
