Wipes, nappies and left over cooking fats were the cause of a sewer blockage which left a Leighton park submerged in filth, the LBO can confirm.

The blockage was cleared and the park was cleaned up by engineers, who returned yesterday to ensure that the sewer was flowing properly. Homeowners have been urged to dispose of waste correctly. An Anglian Water spokesman said: “Unfortunately, this type of incident is often avoidable and caused when people wrongly flush or wash inappropriate items into the sewer network rather than putting them in the bin.”
