Get on your bike for a charity ride through Leighton and the vale

Start training now for ride to aid sick and disabled children.

Cyclists and supporters are being asked to get on their bikes and take the scenic route around Wing and Waddesdon to help sick and disabled children.

Hundreds of people are expected to take part in the Action Arrows 100 sponsored ride in September, raising funds for Action Medical Research.

Volunteers are also needed to man the rest stops and take down signs at the end of the day.

There is a choice of two rides, both starting and finishing in the grounds of Waddesdon Manor. The 100-mile ride takes a route around Leighton, Tring, and Buckingham. The shorter 100k ride is a circular route around Waddesdon and Wing. Both rides include a generous lunch in Wing.

Each cyclist is asked to raise a minimum of 25 in sponsorship on top of the 25 registration fee. Training advice is available so even those who have not cycled for years have plenty of time to get back on their bikes and into condition before the ride on Sunday, September 19.

The money will help fund the work of Action Medical Research that aims to prevent, cure or treat conditions that devastate the lives of thousands of babies and children and their families.

The charity is currently funding research into serious diseases and conditions including meningitis, pneumonia, cerebral palsy and premature birth, as well as supporting the development of new treatments to improve the life for disabled children.

The registration fee covers all costs including refreshment stops in Bishopstone, Cholesbury, Wing and Leckhampstead, cycle mechanics, medical support, recovery vehicles, mobile marshals, fully signed route, medals and goody bags donated by ZipVit energy products, sponsors of Tour de France rider Lance Armstrong 's new team, RadioShack.

All riders are also entitled to a free family ticket for the gardens at Waddesdon Manor on that day.
