Jamie's fundraiser will help children with cancer

A fundraising day is taking place in Leighton Buzzard this month in memory of an 11-year-old boy whose dying wish was to help fellow children with cancer.

The team at Sandhills Community House, together with Astral Park Sport and Community Centre, is organising the special event to help the Tipler family raise funds for Jamie’s Rhythm of Life Brain Tumour Foundation.

In 2015, Jamie Tipler lost his battle against cancer after an extremely brave fight.

Jamie’s wish was that the birthdays of any children in hospital with cancer should be as special as possible. The foundation has already paid for gifts and birthday balloons for 100 young patients locally. Now the family’s ambition is to fulfil Jamie’s wish to raise £20,000 to roll out the birthday gifts’ scheme to all paediatric oncology wards in England.

The July 17 fundraiser will be at Astral Park Sports and Community Centre from 11am to 3pm.

The day will include the planting and dedication of a tree that has been donated by the Leighton-Linslade Town Council.

Home-made cooked lunches will be served, also sandwiches, cakes, ice-cream and beer. There will also be a varied selection of stalls, includimg some representing local craft and businesses.

Dr Bike will be providing a bike maintenance service and also advice on local bike riding routes.

Children’s activities include a bouncy castle, face and nail painting, outside games and wild flower planting with Victoria Harvey from Friends of the Earth.

Family business, Events inc, are also supporting the day by bringing along their Mini Land Rovers.

Other companies supporting the event include Perfect Parties, Jam Crackers IT Support, Waterdene Food Service, The Lancer, Silver Scissors, Mead Open Farm, Raffaella Hair Studio, Leighton Buzzard Brewing Co., Subway, Waitrose, The Litten Tree, and Majestic Wine.

Gina Croxford, Programme and Partnerships Officer, at Sandhills Community House, said: “ We would like to thank all individuals and companies who have already donated to the raffle, tombola and stalls. Any further donations would be welcomed. Raffle tickets can be bought in advance from the Community House or on the day.

“Although the event is fast approaching we are happy to include any other stall holders who would be interested in renting a stall for the day.

“We are also looking for a volunteer to officially open our Jamie’s Rhythm of Life Fundraising Day. Please contact the Sandhills Community House – 01525 374600 if you would like to help in any way.

“Finally, just come along and support us on July 17. We need the whole community to get together and enjoy a great day but also to raise as much as possible for Jamie’s Rhythm of Life Foundation.”
