Helen Nottingham and her team leapt off scaffold towers, slid down fireman’s poles and fended off paintball pellets on their way to successfully negotiating the Warrior Adrenaline Race (WAR) on Dunstable Downs.

The 52-year-old, who runs Buzzard Sports, in North Street, Leighton, fought through the challenging 5km course with her daughter Kelly and friends Vicki Holman and Emily Moore in one hour and 20 minutes.

As well as getting in shape with the help of the trainers at the energie fitness club, Helen was raising funds for Willen Hospice.

She said: “I’m bruised well and proper but we did it. I did things I didn’t think I was going to be able to do.

“The water was absolutely freezing, the steps were huge for us little girls to go up and down, and we crawled through muddy tunnels.

“It was good fun and I’m really pleased that I did it, although I thought I was dying the next day!”
