Leighton horse rider in training for a 'Magic-al' experience
Trek across Jordan for cancer charity
Three young people gave up some of their school holiday to help with a charity fundraiser which involves trekking across Jordan on a horse.
Alex and Robert Chancellor, along with their cousin Mary-Jane Dore, held a tombola in Cotefield Drive last Monday to raise vital funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care – just one event arranged before Alex, 12, and 10 year old Robert's mum Mandy takes part in a five day horse ride across the desert landscape from Karazah to Petra on October 30.
Accomplished horse rider Mandy will be in the saddle eight hours a day until she completes the task, but she is determined to succeed as her dad, David England, died of cancer six years ago and she wanted to provide money so others can benefit from the care David and the family experienced.
The tombola was nine year old Mary-Jane's idea to help her aunt and 16 was raised.
Mandy, 49, from Heath Road, will be loaned an Arab horse for the trek, which will take in stunning views and Bedouin culture, arriving at Petra known as the Rose Red City of the Ancient World.
She has had to lose a stone to comply with weight restrictions but has gained 1300 in cash so far through coffee mornings and sponsorship. Her target is 3000.
She will also have a stall at the May Day Fayre and if you fancy an Arabian night out, she is hosting a disco at Bradwell Village School in Milton Keynes on May 29. Tickets 6, and of course, it's Arabian Night's fancy dress. See this week's LBO for contact details.
Meanwhile, Mandy is out training on her own horse Magic. If you would like to sponsor Mandy visit http://original.justgiving.com/mandychancellor
