Two princesses have been chosen to have a right royal day out at Leighton Buzzard Carnival this summer.

At a selection disco at Leighton Buzzard Royal British Legion Club, Molly Collins, 12, who attends Gilbert Inglefield Academy, and Rebecca Major, 12, who attends Brooklands School, were picked out from the many contenders for the starring roles.

Runners up were Hannah Dimmock, 13, of Gilbert Inglefield Academy, and Holly Porter, 13, of Brooklands School. Judges were Jenny Pierce (S&J Pierce), Eileen Yeomans (Fabric World), Amanda White (2013 Carnival Queen), Sally Allsopp (Leighton-Linslade Children’s Theatre) and Andy Rivers (Bedfordshire Police).

The winners received balloons from Perfect Parties, flowers by Gingerlily and exclusively designed necklaces from Barry Jacobs & the Handmade Jewellery Company of Hatton Garden.

Mark Freeman, chairman of Leighton-Linslade Carnival Committee, said: “The girls were judged mainly on their personality and the judges had a very difficult job choosing the two princesses.

“Eventually they managed to pick Molly and Rebecca, but we encourage all the unsuccessful girls to enter again in 2015, if they still qualify by age. “The carnival committee is grateful to the British Legion Club for allowing us to hold the selection in a town centre location, to the judges and to all those who helped by donating gifts and prizes for the evening.

“The name of the carnival queen will be announced shortly to complete our 2014 Carnival Court for this carnival to be held on July 12.”
