Lieutenant undergoes body wax for charity

RAF officer Steve Hawkins is facing up to a midlife crisis by enduring pain and crippling exhaustion in a bid to raise money for charity.

Lieutenant Hawkins, who is currently stationed at RAF Stanbridge, turned 50 by announcing to friends and family that he would be giving up playing rugby and plans to run next year’s London Marathon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

To boost his fundraising he is bravely undergoing a body wax today, both at the base and at Sunshine and Smoothies, in New Road, Linslade, where four ladies are going to be waxing volunteers for the cause. He said: “With the help of the owner, Liz Cox, I have organised a sponsored waxing day. I have a target of £2,000 for me to compete in the marathon 2013. I suppose it is a bit of a midlife crisis but it’s all for a good cause.”
