999 air crew fly in to help motocross casualty

An airborne medical crew flew to the scene of a motocross accident in Billington yesterday to help a stricken rider.

The Magpas Helimedix team of doctor Maria Smith and paramedic Simon Standen were called in at lunchtime on Saturday by an ambulance crew who had responded to an emergency call.

The victim, a man in his twenties, had fallen from a machine in a location which was difficult for the land-based crew to reach.

The Magpas team assessed the patient, who had suffered an injury to his pelvis, and administered pain relief and put measures into place to protect his pelvis, before airlifting him to Milton Keynes Hospital.

On arrival at the hospital, he was in a stable condition.
