A reason to be cheerful

A new shop that has just opened up on the ‘quaint little cobbled alley’ of Peacock Parade in Leighton Buzzard wants to ruffle some feathers to let people know they are open for business.

Debbie Brewer, 52, of Linwood Grove, launched Reasons To Be Cheerful with her partner Steve Payne, 48, after moving to the area 18 months ago from London. Debbie said: “I didn’t want to work for anyone any more and I wanted to use my redundancy money wisely. It can show people that when you are made redundant that you can start your own business.

“I was nervous at first because the shop is tucked out of the way, but it was a wise move. It is going really well.”

Debbie wants to make sure that Reasons To Be Cheerful is one of the key shops in town for Christmas shopping and intends to stock gifts that are suitable for everyone.

She said: “We haven’t forgotten the fact that men are so difficult to buy for and so we have retro bags, tin models which will make great gifts. We stock eco friendly, traditional wooden toys, built to last, cute baby gifts and funky things that boys and girls will love.

“We are keen to support our local crafts people and so have managed to source handmade soaps, candles and sock monkeys which are bang on trend with their little outfits.

“Peacock Parade is such a quaint little cobbled alley and well worth a look especially in the lead up to christmas.

“We are a unique fairly priced little shop with treats for all the family.”
