Alan visits Leighton's garden gang
Green-fingered scheme under the spotlight
The chairman of Central Beds Council's planning committee, Councillor Alan Shadbolt, has visited Mountbatten Gardens, Leighton.
Mr Shadbolt went along to see the completed community garden enjoyed by residents.
The scheme began in 2008 when South Beds Friends of the Earth and Hockliffe Street Baptist Church joined forces to plant trees and shrubs on the green opposite the parade of shops in Clarence Road.
Further work was done by volunteers from the two groups last year when a line of pyrocanthus bushes were planted on the edge of the green, two rowan trees, and climbing plants - honeysuckle and wild rose to grow over a fence.
Mr Shadbolt said: "I was pleasantly surprised how the area has been transformed."
