Astral Park cash assured

Residents living in Sandhills are likely to have to wait at least another three years before they can enjoy strolls around the area’s open space and lakeside area.

Central Beds Council has revealed that it is having to juggle funds to ensure the £1.24m to build the Astral Park changing and community facilities in south Leighton, is available when needed. The authority ring-fenced the cash from developers in 2011 but its availability depended on houses being built to the west of Billington Road - and the first phase isn’t likely to be built until later this year.

Each time developers apply to build they pay cash into a Section 106 agreement which provides funds for infrastructure.

In a letter to Leighton-Linslade Town Council, CBC planning manager David Hale, said the money is held in other 106 “pots” from previous house-building at Sandhills, Vimy Road and RAF Stanbridge.

When funding does finally come through from Grovebury Farm/Quarry site the cash will go towards developing the Pratt’s Quarry lake area which is being developed as public open space.
