The annual Woburn Abbey Garden Show has been highly commended in the category of Best Event at the Hudson’s Heritage Awards 2014. The ceremony took place at the Goldsmith’s Hall in London, and was presented by TV personality and writer Loyd Grossman. The Woburn Abbey Garden Show, now in its fifth year, takes place on June 21-22 this year.
Martin Towsey, estate gardens manager, accompanied by team members Tom Sibley and Freya Foster, accepted the commendation. He said: “The Duchess of Bedford, wanted to create a garden show where everybody can learn and experience first-hand what needs to be done in their gardens. We have been working hard over the last few years to bring Woburn Abbey Gardens back to their former glory and the Garden Show is an annual highlight in our calendar. To accept this commendation is a great honour.”
At the show in June, visitors will be able to learn new gardening skills, talk to experts, and purchase an array of unusual plants and garden items.
Gardening experts Pippa Greenwood, Martin Fish and Alistair Fraser will share their knowledge through a series of talks and Q&A sessions during the event.
For the past ten years the family, along with Martin Towsey and his team, have been working hard to restore Humphry Repton’s original plans for the ‘Pleasure Gardens’.
A newly restored feature from these original plans and a contemporary addition to Woburn Abbey Gardens will both be opened by The Duchess of Bedford at the Garden Show.
The team of RHS trained gardeners will offer guided tours of the gardens throughout the weekend, giving visitors a behind the scenes look at the ongoing restoration project.
