The Peppermintstore musicians have announced a one-off return of Acoustic Afternoons as part of The Bandstand Marathon in Leighton on Sunday, September 9 from 1pm until 5pm.

The event will take place on the bandstand in Parsons Close Recreation Ground. Performances on the day will come from past Acoustic Afternoon’s favourite Ben Fellows, local acoustic singer-songwriter Birdey and melancholy folk sensation Chylde Owlet as well as sets from the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter-guitarist Terry Emm, emerging Milton Keynes’ talent Nick Fisher and indie pop-rockers The Wondersmiths.

The Bandstand Marathon, organised by Superact and Making Music, is the largest community event of the London 2012 Closing Ceremony and will be bringing live performances to bandstands across the UK, at the same time on the same day, to celebrate a summer of sport and culture.

Seb Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said: “The Bandstand Marathon is encouraging local music groups to fulfil their potential. I am proud that with the help of partners such as Superact we are delivering our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation in creating a cultural legacy post London 2012.”

This family event is free so why not go along, support live music and enjoy performances from some of Leighton Buzzard’s most talented musicians. Acoustic Afternoon’s involvement in the Bandstand Marathon is supported by Leighton-Linslade Town Council who are providing funding for the event’s organisation and offering on-going support and mentoring for performers.
