Beavers blaze a trail through the woods
BUSY Beavers and Cubs from Leighton-Linslade had an action-packed weekend when they took part in the county Beaver fun day at Bromham.
There was a giant water slide, backwoods cooking and other craft activities to keep them occupied.
Over 300 Bedfordshire Beaver Scouts took part in the hectic, seven-hour event which saw the six to eight-year olds design and sail model boats Indian style, follow a blindfold trail through an English wood, launch NASA space hoppers, make woggles out of Turkish red liquorice and take part in Australian backwoods cooking.
But their favourite was the South American Angel Falls, a 50ft water-soaked slide where everyone could get thoroughly wet.
Down in the woods blindfolded Beaver Scouts had to find their way round an obstacle course with fallen trees to negotiate. Madelaine Travers, seven, from Leighton's Tilbridge Scout Group, was just beaten by her more nimble friend Ellen Clarke, also seven.
At the camp fire gathering to close the event the 300 Beavers raised a roar of approval that could be heard for miles. "It was the best time I have ever had," said one tired but excited youngster.
n A group of 38 Cubs from Leighton Linslade District went on their annual sixers & seconders day trip to The Cotswold Wildlife Park, Burford, Oxfordshire, where they saw penguins being fed and watched fruit bats in their natural environment. The cubs are pictured above.
Last Monday 40 Beavers had their own olympics with the winners being Church Riverside Scout Group.
