Central Beds Council issue weather update

Central Beds Council said they are working hard to keep their services running during the adverse weather, but bin collection services have been suspended.

The council recommended that residents whose bins have not been collected to leave their missed bins and bags in their normal location for collection and they will be collected as soon as their street is safe and accessible.

However, refuse tips in Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard will remain open as usual.

The council offered assurances that gritters are being sent on ‘three or four’ runs a day to keep key roads clear, and will continue to be as long as the cold snap continues.

They added that all council libraries will be open as normal, along with the adult learning services they provide.

The council’s four day centres for older people and those with learning disabilities are open for customers who can make it in safely.

Customers who can’t will receive any care they require at home as well as a warm meal.

Leader of the council James Jamieson said: “While snow can be great fun, we know how much weather like this can impact the lives of all our residents.

“At Central Beds Council we are working as hard as we can to ensure that roads are clear, vulnerable people are getting the support they need and residents are kept up to date.

“The quickest way to find out up-to-date news of what’s happening near you is to follow our updates on Facebook and Twitter.”

>Central Beds Council are also urging all local residents and businesses alike to check they are prepared for snow and to look out for their neighbours.

They advise residents to view the Beds and Luton Local Resilience Forum website at www.whatwouldyoudoif.co.uk for tips and advice in light of the severe weather warnings issued throughout the country.

Local Policing Chief Superintendent Mike Colbourne said: “I would urge the people of Beds to take precautionary measures to make sure that they are prepared for severe weather conditions.”

The council’s Facebook updates can be found at www.facebook.com/.letstalkcentral and their Twitter feed is at @LetsTalkCentral.
