Clean-up teams target graffiti in five-day blitz
Tell us where the graffiti is, and we'll get rid of it, says crime reduction group
People in Leighton-Linslade are being asked to report neighbourhood graffiti in the run-up to an initiative aimed at cleaning up the streets.
Teams are going out to blitz the tags and spraypaint in a few weeks' time and they are looking for targets in the town.
The South Beds criminal damage reduction group is holding am environmental action week between February 16 and 20 when teams from the police and district council will be hitting the streets armed with high-pressure sprayers, brushes and chemical wipes.
The event coincides with the half term holidays when safer neighbourhood teams across the division will be out and about and tackling anti-social behaviour.
Sgt Graeme Twyford, who has responsibility for Safer Neighbourhood projects, said this week: "Agencies work incredibly hard to clean up graffiti, but they cannot hope to know where all of it is all of the time.
"The group knows it upsets residents which is why we want them to come forward and tell us about any areas that may have been missed.
"We also want to know who is responsible, because we will take positive action against them."
Anyone who has graffiti to report should phone the 24-hour hotline on 01582 473144.
