Coral’s goal is to net beauty queen crown
A LEIGHTON female footballer will be swapping her muddy boots for stilettos when she gets the chance to qualify for the grand final of Miss England 2012 after a fellow contestant was stripped of her title.
Vice captain of Leighton United Ladies, Coral Beary, 18, was delighted when she heard she was now runner-up in the Miss Bedfordshire competition.
And at the end of this month she has the chance to qualify for the grand final, along with the new Miss Bedfordshire, Sophie-Lauren Amos, 18.
Coral, of Furlong Lane, Totternhoe was given her surprise opportunity after Polish 17-year-old Klaudia Zabek was told to hand back her sash when Miss Bedfordshire judges discovered she doesn’t have a British passport.
Now able to compete in the regional heat for Miss England at Champneys in Leicester on May 30, Coral said: “I was very happy because I had never participated in a pageant before. It was the first time I had done anything like this, so I was really shocked.
“I also felt really excited because it has now opened up some great opportunities.”
As well as being a successful beauty queen contestant, Coral loves taking to the football field.
She said: “I was very sporty when I was younger, then during middle school I suddenly turned really girly, but I didn’t give up on football because I had played for years and really enjoyed it.”
