Crush, bang wallop!
LEIGHTON Police are warning nuisance bikers their mini-motos will be crushed if they are caught riding around the town.
The initiative is part of Operation Meteor and is being backed by a hard-hitting poster campaign bearing the headline "How Mini Do You Want Your Moto?"
Sgt Colin Eldred said police will be running a series of
enforcement days and any motorcyclist causing alarm or distress to residents can expect to be issued with a Section 59 notice.
The notice, made possible under the Police Reform Act 2002, means if they are caught again their machine will be seized and crushed unless they pay a hefty fine and recovery fee.
Action will also be taken for other motoring offences.
Police will also be visiting schools, setting up education roadshows and stepping up high visibility patrols.
Sgt Eldred said: "Every year we get complaints about motorcyclists who put themselves, and others, at risk by tearing along footpaths and bridleways or riding on and off pavements or through local parks.
"We are giving firm but fair notice that we will be out and about with resources including 4x4 vehicles and CCTV equipped Neighbourhood Policing Vehicles to gather evidence and actively target those committing offences.
"Those involved in the theft of motorcycles should be on their guard because we will not hesitate to use resources, such as the force helicopter, to ensure offenders are caught."
