A woman who lost her mother to cancer is set to cycle 400k across Cuba to raise money for the Women V Cancer challenge.
Delia Wilkinson, of Birchs Close, Hockliffe, is one of a group of women who will be pedalling the distance over a period of five days, on and off road.
The event will take place in October, but training is already taking place and Delia raised £200 by taking part in Ride The Night, a race from Windsor Racecourse to London.
She said: “For my mum, who I lost to ovarian cancer in October 2012, and all those women who have battled and are still battling against this dreadful disease, I am getting on my bike and taking positive action in the fight against breast, ovarian and cervical cancers.
“Training is going well despite the weather and work, I have cycled 1,926 miles this year averaging approximately 400 miles per month in sun, wind and rain! It will be a journey full of fun, friendship and incredible support as women from all walks of life come together to challenge themselves for a great cause.”
Delia,47, and the group will be taking part in the challenge to support the work of Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. A donation will also be made to support cancer care in Cuba. Support Delia via www.justgiving.com/Delia-Wilkinson.
