Dancing with delight at Olympic honour

An electric atmosphere awaited talented Leighton dancers at the Olympic closing ceremony, which showed off the best of British to the rest of the world.

Holly Kirkwood, 19, of Hillside Road, Leighton Buzzard, was one of four dancers from Leanne Hughes Theatre School who featured in the closing ceremony’s final dance with the world famous ballerina Darcey Bussell.

Holly said: “It was amazing, I don’t even know how to describe it.

“The atmosphere was electric, but it was like a dream because it was so surreal.

Along with Holly, Alex Hart, Steph Jones and Kiri Fitzgerald were selected from the theatre school after being approached by Olympic organisers, without even being auditioned.

Fellow dancer Katy Woodley also performed in the show in the earlier contemporary section.

The talented girls were chosen over hundreds of hopefuls to provide the dancers for the spectacular event and have spent many hours learning the routines.
