Alex Eddy is hoping to win the Converse Pro Streets competition

A Leighton youngster has gone from doing open mic nights for experience to being an up-and-coming musician who is aiming for the stars and currently leading in a Europe-wide talent competition.

Guitarist Alex Eddy, 19, of Cotefield Drive, recently entered the Converse Pro Streets competition which ‘lets you celebrate your local area by showing off your most original moves’ by capturing the contestant’s talents on film and see the response and reaction from the public online.

Alex, who is currently leading in Europe and has the opportunity to win a trip to Los Angeles, said: “When I got my first guitar I was eight, but it gathered dust until I was 11 where I learnt basic chords. I bought my first electric guitar when I was 14 and then started lessons and learnt covers of some Libertines songs and some Beatles.”

Alex added: “My manager, Lewis Scott, approached me and had great vision for my music and gave me complete control over my music and how my music is perceived, He will be helping to create my first single and the video, and also helping me to reach the bigger stage.”

His first gig was at The Sun pub, in Lake Street, Leighton Buzzard, followed by a number of gigs including Vandyke Upper School and The Stag, Heath Road, where he plays frequently.

Alongside his musical ambitions, Alex is studying music practice at West Herts College, but fame could be on its way when Alex’s first single Care Free is released on November 27, followed by two other future singles.

Lewis said: “Once the single has been released Alex will be stepping up the game performing on the underground scene in London as well as other major cities throughout the country, once he has secured his underground reputation his first album will be released which we are hoping to get him onto the mainstream music scene.”

You can watch Alex’s part in the competition and vote for him before the closing date of the end of today to ensure he has the best chance of winning here: www.prostreets.com/simple-phone/?cid=79&vid=341121.
