Go west in search of next challenge
WHEN the end-of-school bell rang on Friday, Mr Jones couldn’t get on his bike soon enough.
But it wasn’t because he was tired and wanted to get home.
Actually, the 27-year-old PE teacher was only just gearing up for a 357-mile cycle ride from the most easterly point in England to the most westerly point in Wales.
David Jones, of Harcourt Close, Leighton Buzzard, set off from Lowestoft on Saturday and is now in the Brecon Beacons.
He has been riding for 71 miles a day and will arrive in Rhosson, near St David’s, after a final day of labour on Thursday.
Speaking on Friday, he said: “I’m a PE teacher, so it’s my job to be reasonably fit.
“I cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats four years ago.
“I’m looking forward to doing this in a more challenging environment with a lot of cold and shorter daylight hours – really stretching myself each day.
“It will give me huge personal satisfaction and I am hoping to make £1,000 in sponsorship for Bridgewater School in Berkhamsted, where I work. So far I’m up to £700.”
