Grease is the float . . . .

Brooklands Residents' Association rocks its way to success

'GREASE Is The Word' on the lips of float winners Brooklands Residents' Association after they rock 'n' rolled their way to first place in this year's Leighton Buzzard Carnival competition.

Organisers were 'Hopelessly Devoted' to making sure they secured the top spot for the second year running with their Grease-based float in the musicals-themed parade.

Plans went like 'Grease Lightning' from Friday morning when mechanic Andrew Cool fitted a pink Cadillac car to the float.

Liz Gaddston and Linda Eggleton said 'We Go Together' to make sure the float was ready in time for Saturday's lunchtime deadline.

DJ Nathan was on board to ensure 'Rock 'n' Roll Is Here To Stay' and bar steward Geoff dressed up as Danny because he knew 'There Are Worse Things I Could Do'.

Kevin Battams became a pink lady for the day by dressing up as a hilarious take on the leading lady Sandy.

'Summer Nights' since Saturday's win have been fabulous at the club according to Linda, who said: "The win is absolutely fantastic, we do this because we love the club so much – You're The One That I Want!

"Thank you to all who helped and donated items for the float and, of course, to all those who took part."

The Mary Bassett Lower School was voted the best float in the schools and children's section with its rendition of Joseph And His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

St George's Lower School scooped first prize in the walking and cycling section with its Oliver theme.

Thousands of people turned out for this year's carnival.

A total of 47 stalls set up in Parsons Close Rec – the largest number of stalls in the carnival's history. About 8,000 was raised for charities.
