Great sports turn out in support
More than 30 Leighton-Linslade sports clubs got involved to offer taster sessions and provide an historical background to sport at Leighton Middle School on Saturday,
Leighton-Linslade Town Council’s History and Celebration of Sport event was inspired by this year’s Olympics and Paralympics games. Alongside the sporting theme, the event featured dance and gymnastic displays as well as circus workshops and entertainment from sporting characters.
The History of Sport event replaced last October’s Cultural Event, which showcased local groups with a jam-packed programme of music, drama, art and dancing. Among the live entertainment included Chinese Ribbon Dance and Hula Hooper, Circus and BMX Workshops, as well as face painting and local sporting photographic displays.
Gill Miller, the council’s events manager, said: “We were delighted with the turnout of extremely enthusiastic visitors on what was probably the sunniest day for many weeks. Visitors of all ages were able to take up the challenge and have a go at the many traditional sporting activities as well as the more unusual such as ribbon dancing and welly wanging that were on offer on the day!
“The competitive spirit came out on the race track with fun races including egg and spoon and sack race for children and space hopper race for the adults. The town council would like to thank all the clubs who participated for giving the opportunity to many young people, who one day may become our Olympic sportsmen and women of the future.”
