Heathwood cares about Fairtrade
SOUTH West Beds MP Andrew Selous has presented Heathwood Lower School with a certificate in recognition of the school becoming a Fairtrade School.
The idea to promote Fairtrade products came from members of the school council who wanted to support farmers in Africa by starting a Fairtrade tuck shop.
This proved a great success and money raised has been used to sponsor a child in Africa.
Over the past year, the youngsters have hosted a Fairtrade lunch for parents and governors, a coffee afternoon for parents and local residents, participated in a Fairtrade fashion show and teachers have incorporated fair-trade issues in lessons.
Angela Feaviour, from Fairtrade Leighton Linslade's Steering Group, said: “I particularly enjoyed seeing the students evidence file which displayed a high level of commitment and understanding.
“Very well done to all the students and staff involved.”
