History buried in capsule
A time capsule has been buried in the historic grounds of Leighton Middle School this week.
Year Six students dug a hole while trying not to disturb the remains of any monks who might been buried there hundreds of years ago in the time before the dissolution of the monasteries.
Pupil Hannah Swaby of Maple six class told the LBO: "We planned the time capsule in year five but didn't have time to bury it then, so in year six after a lot of planning, we buried it in the school grounds.
"We have left a secret map with head teacher Mrs Thompson.
"There are quite a few items in the box, a DVD made by some of the boys, a scrapbook of photos, a brochure of Leighton Middle School, gaming cards, a decorated photo frame of some girls and more. So much effort had gone into the time capsule.
"Every member of the class wrote a letter to the future finder of the time capsule about their school, hobbies, uniform and favourite shops, their friends and everything about the school from the houses, Maple, Beech, Cedar and Linden. Some children bought in little spades to dig the hole. In the end they all got a bit mucky whether they were digging or not!
"Maple 6's teacher, Miss Stewart was so proud of us for coming up with such a fantastic idea.
"It was fun to do and we hope it will be appreciated by future finders!"
