Join the library and borrow its toys

MARY Bassett Lower School wants to launch a toy library in the town by Christmas.

The school in Bassett Road, Leighton, has already received a grant for 5,000 to help it with the project and a small band of volunteers are on the case, but head teacher Deborah Pargeter says that more volunteers are needed to get the scheme running.

The facility would work like a book library, but people could borrow toys. Leighton used to have a toy library a few years ago, but it closed down.

Mary Bassett sees the project as an exciting venture for the school and the community. Mrs Pargeter said: “We need help with setting up the infrastructure. The school can donate a computer, and we would value anyone's offers of help or suggestions so we can progress forward.”

Young families, child minders and preschools will all benefit from the toy library. Toys will be available suitable for small babies to eight-year-olds.

Mrs Pargeter continued: “We also need to find out what sort of toys people would like to see at the library. We would like it to be a real social event for people to attend, our school is a lovely setting to bring children to and is in a central location.”

If you can spare time to help get the toy library in operation call Mrs Pargeter on (01525) 373017.
