Jumbo help for playgroup

WHEN a managing director heard a Leighton playgroup was at risk of folding he was certainly game for helping to save them

Gray Richmond, of Jumbo Games in Hatfield, decided to give Mentmore Road Under-Fives a donation of £250, plus a large selection of toys and puzzles.

Coupled with recently publicity from the LBO of the group’s plight which brought in newly registered children, the future is now looking a lot brighter.

Playgroup spokesman Tammy Richardson said: “The gift we received from Gray, combined with local council funding, means we can concentrate on the children, which is what we’re here for!’

“I really love this play group, as did my other two children, and now that closure has been averted, I’m looking forward to sending my youngest there in the near future!”

“The funding from Jumbo really will make a difference to us going forward. It’s great that such a large company still has links with the local community.’

Mr Richmond said: “For us it seemed a very easy decision, Jumbo is all about playing people being happy people and where better for children to have fun than at such a lovely playgroup. It’s not fair that children suffer if a group like this would close through lack of funds. In the same way we sponsored a crossing patrol for Beaudesert school earlier this year as they didn’t have money to pay for it after funding was cut it just seemed like the right thing to do.”
