Kindness helps after trauma of accident

The reaction of the public after a serious accident in Leighton High Street has demonstrated how strong community spirit is in the town, writes Amanda Devlin.

Douglas Thorpe, who had been out shopping with his wife Mary, was one of the people injured in the accident, which also saw another pedestrian and a cyclist hospitalised on Thursday.

Mr Thorpe’s daughter, Tina Browning, has spoken on behalf of her parents, who have been overwhelmed by the heart-warming support they have received since the incident. She said: “Despite the trauma they experienced; what has stood out most for them was the compassion, concern and care that they experienced immediately following the accident and also in the following days.”
