Knights in armour thrill the schools

LEIGHTON-Linslade Town Council, together with members of The Lion Rampant medieval re-enactment society, brought medieval history to life for more than 350 youngsters with workshops at the town's middle schools.

A grant of 2,400 from Awards For All enabled the children to experience first hand the thrill of knights in armour, medieval dance and music, costume and entertainment and the role of the church.

Other pupils met with members of the Greensand Trust to explore the use of plants and herbs in the medieval period and to design a medieval herb garden.

Among those taking part were Year 7 students at Brooklands Middle School.

Deputy headteacher, Julie Edkins, said: “The children loved it.

“They had a brilliant day and learned a lot.”
