Thieves let themselves into a home through an unlocked door as the victims were upstairs in the second burglary in two days that has happened in Leighton-Linslade.

The burglary happened on Monday at 3.40pm in Drakes Avenue, Leighton Buzzard, when the robbers fled the scene with a handbag and laptop after being disturbed.

Police officers arrived at the property in Drakes Avenue to find that a number of footprints had been left after they had gained access through the rear garden and entered the house through an unlocked patio door.

It is believed that they took off along Broomhills Road, into Heath Road, then into Greenhill, along Plantation Road and then into Firs Path where the trail was lost.

Bedfordshire Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward if they have any information about the incident.

Detective Constable Simon Day, who is investigating the burglary, is keen to hear from anyone who was in Drakes Avenue at the time of the burglary or may have seen the offenders running away from the property and along Broomhills Road, Heath Road, Greenhill, Plantation Road and Firs Path.

Dec Con Day said: “This was quite frankly a brazen burglary carried out by offenders who took an opportunity which presented itself to them.

“The victim has been left quite shaken by the offence but also quite angry that they couldn’t do more to stop the offenders.

“We would really like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or anyone else who may have information, however small or insignificant they think it is, that could help us.

Don’t dismiss your information as unimportant, even tiny details which don’t seem relevant now might become useful later on in the investigation.”

If you have information relating to this incident, contact DC Day, in confidence, on 01582 394449, the non-emergency number 101, or text information to 07786 200011. Alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
