‘Crazy’ ladies from Leighton will be rubbing shoulders with a number of celebrities as they do their bit to make wishes come true for seriously ill children.
Rachel Cramer, Sam Tingey and Jacqui Kennedy will take part in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on Sunday, October 6) under the team name Half Marathon Crazy Ladies.
Rachel, 39, of Beaudesert, Sam, 43, of Alwins Field, and Jacqui, 33, of Cormorant Way, will be running for Starlight Children’s Foundation – a national charity that grants once-in-a-lifetime wishes for seriously and terminally ill children and provides entertainment in hospitals and hospices across the UK.
Starting and finishing in Hyde Park, the 13.1 mile route runs across four of London’s stunning Royal Parks - Hyde Park, St James’s Park, Kensington Gardens and Green Park. Runners also take in some of the capital’s most historic landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the Albert Memorial.
The trio will be running alongside a whole host of famous faces. Gordon and Tana Ramsay, Ben Fogle, Tom Aikens, Tessa Sanderson, James Cracknell, Nell McAndrew, Bill Nighy, Charley Boorman and The Saturdays have all supported in previous years.
This is the first time the ladies have done the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon for Starlight.
Rachel, a project manager for a software company, said: “Starlight helps to bring smiles to seriously and terminally ill children at a time when they have very little else to look forward to. We are delighted to support this charity’s wonderful work.”
Sam, who is head of special needs at a Milton Keynes school, said: “Training is going really well although I admit we found it tough to begin with! We have been sticking to our training programme pretty carefully and I hope this, and the thought of helping Starlight to grant wishes will be enough to get us round the course!”
