Leighton Co-Op robbers hunted
Co-Op in Clarence Road
POLICE are hunting two armed robbers who attempted to hold up a Leighton store last night and ended up pelting the brave shop assistant with mini-eggs.
Two men, wearing Balaclavas and armed with a handgun, burst into the Co-Op, in Clarence Road, at 10.40pm and demanded cash from the assistant. When the plucky worker refused to hand over any cash the couple hurled Easter eggs and fled the shop.
Armed police officers were soon on the scene but the men were not found despite an intensive search of the area.
Leighton Police are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the drama or who saw the robbers.
A spokesman said: “The person in the shop was very brave but we would never encourage anybody to put themselves in harm’s way.
“Anyone who saw anything suspicious should call us on the new contact number 101.”
