More power cuts hit Leighton Buzzard left over 500 people in darkness following a fault in the early hours of this morning.

The Windsor Avenue area lost power at around 12.30am. almost one month to the day after areas of Leighton Buzzard were once again plunged into darkness after a fault left almost three thousand homes without electricity.

The power failure was caused by a fault on a piece of equipment at an electricity substation, which interrupted power supplies to customers of UK Power Networks in the Brooklands Drive and Billington Park area in January.

In relation to last night’s events, a spokesman for UK Power Networks said: “Engineers have restored power to homes in the Windsor Avenue area of Leighton Buzzard following a fault on an underground cable on our high voltage network.

“Power was interrupted to 553 customers at about 12.30am today and was restored to everyone in stages between 2am and 2.36am.

“A further number of customers would have seen a brief interruption to their supplies of about a minute when the initial fault occurred.

“We would like to reassure our customers that our engineers worked as quickly as was safely possible to return their supplies to normal and apologise for any inconvenience.”
