Looking ahead to summer

The snow may have only just melted away, but plans are already being put in place to make this summer one to
remember.

Leighton-Linslade Town Council is arranging threeSummer Sundays in June, August and September, that is expected to cost £20,000.

Plans for the event’s first theme is a national celebration to encourage street parties in every neighbourhood, called ‘The Big Lunch’.

There will be a whole of street entertainment such as face painting, balloon modellers and street magician and two bands will perform on a central stage.

The town council will provide the stage, 100 trestle tables and 800 chairs for the event that would involve closing the High Street and encourage everyone to bring their own picnic or buy from street traders or local shops.

In August, the theme ‘Children’s Summer Sunday’ will be used to focus on the Children’s Trail to attract people across Bedfordshire.

And in September, the third event is intended to be a ‘Steam Fair’ with an aim to get a number of steam engines along the High Street and would again involve a road closure.

Advertising for the events, plus staff and stewarding costs have been calculated within the budget that is to be discussed with the rest of the event at the partnership committee on February 7.
