Make carnival a right royal occasion

IT’S the time of the year when thoughts turn to making Leighton-Linslade Carnival a right royal occasion.

This is the event’s 60th annivesary and young female LBO readers can put themselves forward for a starring role in this landmark year.

The carnival committee is looking for two princesses and the selection dance is being held on Thursday, May 10 at the Brooklands Club, Garden Leys.

Doors open at 7pm and entrance to the disco costs just £3. A carnival committee spokesman said: “You do not have to enter the princess competition to come to the disco. As long as you are in school years 5, 6 7 and 8 just come along and have a good time! No parents admitted!”

The princesses will be chosen from school years 5,6,7 and 8 however, you must have an address in Leighton Buzzard (father/mother/guardian). Also ensure you are available for the whole of the carnival day – Saturday, July 14.

There is no fee to enter just the £3 charge for the disco but potential princesses must bring along with them a completed application form (which will be printed in the May 1 and May 8 issue of the Leighton Buzzard Observerr) SIGNED by their parent/guardian giving permission for you enter.

Both the parent/guardian and the applicant must sign to agree that any monies raised/donated during the carnival princesses reign will be handed to the carnival committee for donation to local charities.

Winners will need to agree to be available for functions during the year that the carnival committee asks them to attend (dressed in carnival princess regalia).

The carnival princess dress and shoes are part of the prize for being chosen and on carnival day the winners will have their hair styled by Michael Di Mio and make-up/nails done by Jo Alexander.

You can email the committee via www.leightoncarnival.moonfruit.com to tell them you will be at the disco and/or entering the competition.

Bring your disco entrance money and princess selection form with you on the night.

Soft drinks/raffle will be available during the evening at a small charge. Carriages at 9pm.
