Marathon Fun Runners set a £15,000 target

FIFTEEN Leighton Fun Runners will this year be taking on the 'Horizontal Everest' that is the London Marathon.

The intrepid group is aiming to raise over 15,000 for charity by taking on the 26-mile race this Sunday.

Those running include Paul Thomas and Simon Warner for Cancer Research UK; Martin and Angela Kerr, who will be running for APEC (Action on Pre-eclampsia); John Conlon will be running for Folks (Friends of Landau Kleffner Syndrome); Martin Addrison will be raising money for the Cancer Treatment Research Trust; Natasha Blott is rasing cash for BBACT (Blind Business Association Charitable Trust); and Clive Daniels is running for Wooden Spoon.

Lisa Dethick will run for Kidney Research; Steve Jellis for the London Air Ambulance; and last but not least, Martin Walker will be running for VICTA (Visually Impaired Children Taking Action) and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Martin Walker said, despite the hard work, the group love every minute of the mammoth race.

"The training is over, now comes the real thing, and the nerves. Most have been training with the club since January, being dragged out and shouted at on cold, wet, windy Wednesday nights. It's hard work but we know it will be worth every minute as we are helping others."

If you're running on Saturday or just want to go along and give your support, there are still places on the Fun Runners coach.

It leaves Leighton High Street at 6.30am sharp, and costs 10 a person. For more details, email Pam O'Connell at pam@fullonmarketing.com

If you would like to sponsor one or more of the runners, email captain@leightonfunrunners.org.uk
