Some might say nowadays people are running scared of marriage, but not for a Leighton couple who together embarked on a 26-mile run overseas in aid of a cause close to their hearts.

Karen Kirwan, 54, of Phoenix Close, completed the Chicago Marathon in four hours and 43 minutes with her husband, John, 53, to raise money for Cancer Research.

Linslade Tesco employee Karen, who ran for the company’s official charity of the year, said: “It was a fantastic experience to do it with my husband.

“I was quite keen to do it because my mum has cancer and my dad died of cancer. So when I heard that Tesco was raising money for Cancer Research I thought it would be nice to do.
