Mean thieves steal charity race raft

A GROUP of ten local people planning to take part in a charity fund-raising rafting event for Keech Cottage Children's Hospice were extremely disappointed to find that their raft had been stolen last week.

The team had been training every week in preparation for CHAR, a three-day, 70-mile rafting race down the River Wye, which is due to take place in May.

The 30ft-long by 10ft-wide aluminium raft had been moored on the canal close to Ledburn Sandpit in Leighton Buzzard at the RMC Aggregates site, just under the bypass.

It was secured to metal girders at the side of the canal with strong, heavy-duty metal cables and chains.

The 1-man raft was first noticed missing on Thursday March 20 and was reported to the local police.

Anyone with any information should contact Bedfordshire Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
