Areas of Leighton Buzzard were once again plunged into darkness last night after a fault left almost three thousand homes without electricity.

The power failure was caused by a fault on a piece of equipment at an electricity substation, which interrupted power supplies to customers of UK Power Networks in the Brooklands Drive and Billington Park area at 8.55pm.

The LBO reported on power cuts in the town centre last month that again affected customers in Lake Street, Old Chapel Mews and Dudley Street area.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: “We realise how uncomfortable it must have been for those without power last night, especially during such cold weather.

“We would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
