MP backs campaign to boost digital skill

Help is at hand for anyone feeling daunted by the digital world we live in, with the launch of a new community campaign by Citizens Advice Leighton-Linslade, in partnership with BT and Barclays.

Tthe charity is running a series of free Digital Workshops at Bossard House in West Street, where anyone can go along and learn how to get the most out of the web and improve their skills and confidence online.

BT has installed free wifi to enable people attending the workshops to connect to the internet, and the sessions will be led by Barclays staff known as ‘Digital Eagles’.

South West Beds MP Andrew Selous attended the campaign launch hosted by the Citizens Advice team, with Ceri Evans, manager of Barclays Leighton Buzzard.

He said: “I am very appreciative of Barclays helping more local residents to get online and I strongly welcome the partnership here in Leighton Buzzard with Citizens Advice.”

David Wood, manager of Citizens Advice Leighton Linslade said: “We’re delighted to be working with BT and Barclays to provide essential information and skills in a friendly and supportive environment.

“So many aspects of our lives are now online, from applying for jobs to ordering the weekly shop, and we know that lots of people find this difficult or feel a bit left behind by the digital revolution. The workshops are open to anyone who feels like this and wants to gain confidence.”

Digital workshops will be held at Bossard House at 2pm on June 13, June 27, July 11, July 15 and July 22, with refreshments provided.
